One guy (who claims to be a mechanic) gave a long list of stuff he has to do to maintain the shaft drive on his Vulcan 750. I have owned several shaft drive bikes, and never had to do more than just change the oil and lube splines at the final drive. I used the bottle the oil came in and slowly added the oil a pump or two at a time after I knew I had over 3 oz in the final. You guys that are changing every 2,000 miles to 5,000 miles should really consider having that used oil tested just once to see actually how well that oil is and how your engine is doing. Usually unscrews normally after the initial "budge", Mine too. Maybe put a very very small dab of anti-seize on the cap threads. Shouldn't need to but it will help. If that's the case with your bike, you should be able to run Mobil 1 "red cap". That's what I use in my '99 Magna.
