Burnt Powder. Wipe the dirt off and oil the parts that move with the exception of the charge bar and the hinge where the top folds back. They do not need any lubrication. The charge bar needs to be clean and if you lube it at all, a little graphite or silicon spray will do the trick. The reason for the cracked or tore hulls is because of the gun you are shooting. A .410 shotgun that has a very wide open chamber or very tight chamber will cause the shell to expand or shrink and it will burn the pedals/crimp at the end of the shell.
