Those early TBI's were all about managing to pass emissions. Gas mileage wasn't the primary consideration. You need that intake, a carb, and a 78-85 ish HEI distributor if you want the simpler HEI. I think you may have a few tricks running the th350 starter and the modern flex plate. If everyone was happy why change to TBI. Doesnt matter who uses all the power or not. KTM believes TBI is better than TPI. Many on this site, other riders and KTM's own comments say TBI feels more like a carb. This doesnt exactly make me want to go out and get one.
